Quarter of a century for Thornton Heath coach company
A family-run coach company is celebrating 25 years in business.
Mayday Travel first started out as a coach-less coach hire company back in 1987, when owner Keith D'Souza was 18 years old.
The teenager worked for Troika Travel, but keen to start his own business he declined a wage, instead agreeing with his boss to borrow their vehicle to carry out his own work.
After spending two years building his reputation and buying a coach, Mr D'Souza opened Mayday Travel in Thornton Heath.
Twenty-five years later he now owns and operates a fleet of 15 coaches, which are used for school and business trips and for the company's own day trips and excursions.
Busy with Olympic bookings, staff have agreed to mark their 25 years of trading after the Games, with a party for the company's customers.
The business now based in Beddington Lane, has Mr D'Souza's wife Trudy working as the company secretary, his sister Jeannette working in accounts and his niece Shareen working in admin.
His cousins Mark and James work as the company and office manager respectively, and Keith's brother-in-law Mark, is the company's maintenance manager.
Mr D'Souza said: "We are a family owned and operated business who focus on customer service. Our success is based on hard work and I am proud of all our staff for this.
"I have never been money driven, profit has always been second to customer satisfaction. I wanted to build a company that would stand the test of time."
