Pupils at Cranmere Primary School in Esher are leading the way when it comes to recycling their food waste.
It is the first scheme of its kind in Elmbridge and comes after Weston Green councillor Ruth Bruce gave a talk to members of the school’s lunchtime Eco Club.
The pupils took it upon themselves to send a letter to Elmbridge Council asking for a collection to be set up and were granted a trial at the school.
Headteacher Gillian Freeman said: “Being responsible is core to our teaching at Cranmere so I was delighted when the pupils took responsibility for our recycling.”
Elmbridge Council was also pleased with the scheme’s success and is now looking to expand across the borough.
