Keen scientists, budding inventors and quick-thinking mathematicians put their skills to the test when they visited St George’s College for its annual science, maths and technology fair.
The event gave 40 children from nearby junior schools the chance to use the Weybridge schools’ facilities in the departments and understand how science subjects are taught when they move up to secondary school.
Six mini-workshops were on offer, which introduced children to chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, food technology and resistant materials.
Each supervised session encouraged a hands-on approach to learning and experiments were carried out to stimulate participants’ imaginations.
Keith Taggart, organiser of the event and head of physics at St George’s College, said: “This event is a great opportunity for local junior school children to understand how these subjects are taught at senior school, showing them that learning can be interactive and enjoyable.”
Pupils from Cranmere Primary School, Esher, were among those who attended, as well as those from the Marist School, the Holy Family School, Goldsworth Park Primary, St Anne’s Catholic Primary School, St Jude’s School and Pyrford Church of England School.
