Hundreds of youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds are to receive free nursery sessions.
It comes after the introduction of new Government policy which makes it obligatory for councils to provide disadvantaged two-year-olds with 15 hours of free childcare a week.
A total of 500 nursery places have been given to disadvantaged youngsters, with 400 more to be offered in the spring.
But some of the nursery places are being provided in former one o'clock centres, with three now charging for stay and play services.
A private nursery provider is charging parents £1.50-£4 for using Bolingbroke one o'clock centre, with the cost depending on the age of the child.
Coronation Gardens, in Southfields, is offering two afternoon stay and play sessions a week for a modest charge yet to be announced.
Windmill one o'clock centre will also be charging for drop in play sessions.
Fontley Way One O'Clock Centre, York Gardens One O'Clock Centre and Triangle One O'Clock Centre are to remain free.
At King George's Park centre a £375,000 improvement scheme will begin in January.
Staff from the nearby West Hill Centre will be using the current building for free stay and play sessions, while co-ordinating childminder groups in the area until work commences.
The former centre in Battersea Park is being transformed into a family friendly café, with an outdoor play area for toddlers.
In June this year an army of mum's protested outside Wandsworth Town Hall against the introduction of charges.
