To celebrate the opening of Walton Bridge, children at St Alban’s Catholic Primary School enjoyed a building bridges design and technology week.
Using maps and the internet to research famous bridges, pupils at the East Molesey school learned about different types of bridges from a truss to a suspension bridge.
During the week, children worked in teams to make their own bridges out of materials including lollipop sticks, matchstick boxes and art straws, and researched and designed the whole creation.
Martin Branningan, headteacher of St Albans, said: “The children have really enjoyed designing and constructing the bridges out of various materials, they have learned a lot and had great fun. I am very proud of all their achievements.”
To recognise their achievements, one team from each class was awarded with an outstanding bridge building certificate at a special assembly.
