A Christian group has ambitions to open a second school in the borough, this time in Kingston.

Chapel Street hopes to provide places for children from four years old all the way through to 18.

The company is already in negotiations to open a primary school somewhere, probably Motspur Park sports ground, for Motspur Park and Raynes Park children.

If the Kingston proposals get the go-ahead from the Department for Education, the two-form primary school is expected to open by September 2015.

A three-form secondary school would open by September 2017.

They will hold a meeting on Thursday to explain their proposals to parents.

Councillor David Ryder-Mills, Kingston Council's lead for schools and continuing education, said he would be going along to the meeting to find out more.

He said: “You have the responsibility for making sure there are an adequate number of school places and about no power to tell providers what you want and what you don’t want.

"We are behold to them to come up with the ideas – that is why it is a guessing game. I want to get to the meeting to find out more.”

Dr Russell Rook, chief executive officer at Chapel Street, said: “Chapel Street creates schools that the community wants and needs.

"The best way for us to know what these are is through consultation.

“I’d encourage as many people as possible to attend the meetings to ensure we answer as many questions as possible and together create the best school we can.”

The meeting for Kingston Community School will be held at the Richard Mayo Centre in Eden Street on Thursday from 7.30pm.
