The Government’s Minister for Schools has congratulated a school for its "pursuit of the highest standards of educational achievement".

David Laws MP, Minister of State for Schools, wrote to Rosebery School, in White Horse Drive, Epsom, to praise the GCSE results it achieved last year.

In August, 91.4 per cent of its pupils achieved at least five A* to C GCSE grades, compared to a national average of 68.1 per cent.

This is the second year in a row that Mr Laws has written to the school.

Mr Laws said: "It gives me great pleasure to congratulate you on the excellent GCSE performance of your pupils in 2013.

"The percentage of your pupils achieving five or more A* to C grade GCSEs, including English and maths, shows that your school is one of the top 100 performing non-selective state funded school in England.

"Your school is a clearly equipping its pupils for successes in both further study and future employment.

"The results are a shining testament to the hard work and successes of your staff, governors and pupils.

"I would like to offer my thanks to you and all at your school for your pursuit of the highest standards of educational achievement."

Mrs Mackintosh, headteacher, added: "We are delighted, for the second year running, to have received a congratulatory letter from David Laws MP for our excellent GCSE results last summer.

"Rosebery is duly recognised as one of the top 100 performing non-selective state funded schools in England.

"This is a testament to the hard work of our students and the dedication and diligence of all our staff.

"We at Rosebery are committed to strive for the highest standards of achievement from all our students."
