“Fair is foul, and foul is fair” was one of many famous Shakespeare quotes recited at St Andrew’s Primary School last week.

Children from across the school were immersed in all things Shakespearean as they enjoyed workshops as part of national Shakespeare week.

Cat’s Grin Theatre visited the Cobham school and captivated children in the lower school with performances of A Winter’s Tale, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Macbeth.

Throughout the week, each year group learnt about a different play and explored the themes and characters within it through storyboards, puppets, acting out scenes and performing speeches.

The week ended with workshops for children in years 3 to 6, culminating in a performance of Romeo and Juliet by the children.

Maggie Hayward, English co-ordinator at St Andrew’s, said: “I am thrilled with how successful the week has been.

“The staff have embraced the idea and the children have responded so positively. I would love to see this as a permanent part of our curriculum.”
