An Olympic torch relay between London boroughs has helped inspire students at two schools to walk to school.
Pupils from Alexandra Infants and St Paul's Junior School accepted a torch used at the 1948 London games from Richmond children last Friday, October 15.
Students held the handover ceremony in Richmond Park before taking part in a short parade and meeting a participant from the 1948 competition.
The event was part of the annual Big WoW event, which encourages students to walk once a week to school.
Helen Lewis, a year 2 teacher at Alexandra Infants, said: “The children were extremely excited at the prospect of seeing a real Olympic torch.
“They could not believe they would have the opportunity to touch the torch. We have come back and the children have created their own Olympic torches.
“They are all feeling they could be prospective Olympians in their own right. It was really inspiring.”
