Young people took part in a day-long litter clearing mission as part of their Duke of Edinburgh open award programme.

More than 25 youngsters from Kingston participated in the clear-up at Boxhill that fulfilled part of the award’s expedition and volunteering sections.

They cleared up general litter and removed a fly tip in the National Trust partnered event on Saturday, June 16.

Councillor Patricia Bamford, executive member with responsibility for children and young people, said: “The Duke of Edinburgh programme is such a great opportunity for young people.

“It is a good thing to be a part of, not only for developing greater independence but also to help with future employment opportunities. “I would encourage all young people to take part in the programme if they can.”
