My son Toby has Asperger's Syndrome, which is an autistic spectrum disorder.

On 24th August he is going to be climbing Mount Snowdon in Wales to raise money for CASPA, a charity which helps autistic children in the Bromley borough.

Toby was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome aged 3. Asperger's is an autistic spectrum disorder characterised by rigid thinking, social skills impairment and difficulties with social imagination. In other words he can become extremely stressed if things don't go as planned and can have trouble making friends and interacting with other children. He also has strong sensory needs and can become distressed by loud noises, over-stimulation, busy environments etc.

We were fortunate enough to find an amazing charity called CASPA which provides activities for children on the autistic spectrum and their families. They have been a lifeline for us and Toby has come on in leaps & bounds since joining. He attends a weekly 'youth club' session and also attends holiday sessions. He wouldn't be able to access mainstream provision due to the high level of support he needs (part of his condition means he he eats inedible objects and has no sense of danger).

CASPA unfortunately do not receive any funding from the council and are now entirely funded by donations. We therefore want to give something back by helping to raise funds for this beacon of light within the autistic community!

Toby is VERY lively and energetic so a climb up Snowdon seemed like the perfect challenge for him! He has a justgiving page at https://www.justgiving.com/Toby-Brown1/ and more information about CASPA can be found at www.caspabromley.org.uk.
