Do you want some Company?

Mayhem Musical Theatre Company presents a 35th birthday party with a twist at the Charles Cryer Studio Theatre from 9th till 12th May!

Created by the Academy Award winning composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim, and based on the book by George Furth, Company goes straight to the heart of all our relationship experiences while being set to a powerful score filled with raw emotion.

Based in New York, the show tells the story of five married, about to be married and once married couples and their mutual friend Robert. Robert, the birthday boy, seems to have everything: good looks, charm and a great sense of humor. Nevertheless, he remains single. Through Robert’s eyes we witness the wonders and pitfalls of the relationships of the couples as well as his three on-and-off girlfriends.

Company is filled with some of Sondheim’s most memorable and well loved numbers such as ‘Being Alive’, ‘Ladies Who Lunch’ and ‘Side by Side’. Producer Sophie Barthel says: “The combination of hilarious comedy and gut-wrenching tragedy that catapulted the show to win seven Tony Awards in 1970 couldn’t be more relevant in our lives today. It’s an honor to have the opportunity to bring it to Carshalton together with an incredibly talented team and cast.”

Through the poignant staging by Off-West End director award nominee Tim Sullivan and inspirational musical direction by Jon Wade the audience, alongside Robert, will discover that while relationships rarely turn out to be a fairy tale, they form an essential part of “Being Alive”.
