There was disappointment for James Ellington today as he failed to make it out of the 200m heats at the Olympic Stadium.

The Croydon runner lined up in the seventh heat but could only manage a sixth place finish in a time of 21.23 meaning he misses out on tomorrow’s semi finals.

Team GB will be represented in the event going forward however, after Christian Malcolm took second in heat three in a time of 20.59 to see him advance.

Jamaican duo and gold and silver medallists from the 100m, Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake, also made it through with little trouble and will be joined by countryman Warren Weir who produced one of the quickest times of the round.

Ecuador’s Alex Quinonez was the fastest man on the track this morning though as he completed the course in a national record of 20.28.

The athletes return to the stadium tomorrow for the semi finals at 8.10pm.
