Sutton United boss Paul Doswell says this weekend’s FA Trophy first round proper trip to Maidenhead United is a crucial game.

Talking after Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat to Bath City in the Blue Square South, which had Doswell seething at his own team, the United boss is hoping their away form will see them through.

“It’s a difficult draw because Maidenhead don’t lose many at home. But it’s the first time since I’ve been here that we’re better away from home than we are at home, so maybe we can sneak another win, because it is a crucial game,” he said.

United’s league form is concerning Doswell with just one win in the last four.

He said: “We created enough chances against Bath, but Craig Watkins was two yards out and shot wide, Simon Downer was four yards out and shot wide, and that’s been a problem all season.”

Doswell is hoping to have Marvin Williams and Steven Old back from injury for the Trophy clash.
