Weybridge’s Jonathan Marray described his week at the ATP World Tour Finals as ‘amazing’, despite bowing out with Frederik Nielsen in the semi-finals, writes Ziad Choudry.

The 2012 Wimbledon men’s doubles champions lost 6-4 6-3 in their final match as a pairing to Spanish duo Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez.

But despite the defeat, it has been a fantastic year for the Surrey-based professional, who also added two ATP Challenger titles to his Grand Slam win at SW19.

And Marray is after a repeat performance over the next 12 months to ensure his return to the O2.

“Playing in front of home crowds, all the razzmatazz, flashing lights – it motivates you to want to come back next year,” said the 31-year-old, who became the first Briton to win the Wimbledon men’s doubles title for 76 years back in July.

“It’s been amazing playing here. It’s been a fantastic year for British sport, and it’s been great to have been a part of it.”
