Merton’s newest football club have been rewarded for achieving an historic milestone.

Mitcham Park FC, based at Three Kings Piece in Commonside West, received Charter Standard from the Football Association last summer after being founded in 2011.

The kitemark  means all their coaches are trained to a high standard and are able to administer First Aid.

To commemorate the achievement, boys and girls were invited on to the pitch at half time of Crystal Palace’s match against Derby Country at Selhurst Park on November 17, where they were presented with their award.

Club secretary Brendan Sullivan said the club, which currently only features teams for teenagers, has big plans to expand to adult football and become a major force in south-west London.

He added: “The boys and girls had a fantastic time and for most of them it was their first experience of live football - and the warm hospitality was very welcome.”
