There’s no need for wishing, there’s no need to dream. Has boss Uwe Rosler assembled Brentford’s greatest team?

That is the question that resonates around Griffin Park now the Bees have established themselves in the League One top six after last week’s last gasp 3-2 win over MK Dons.

The Phil Holder’s Division Three title winning team of 1992 was good, but played direct football and relied heavily on the goals of Gary Blissett and Dean Holdsworth and the wizadry of Neil Smillie.

The 2012 Bees have goal threats all over the park – embodied by the emergence of Harry Forrester – and have shown on countless occasions they can grind out results when required.

Not only that, but they are doing it in a style that might befit a Championship side already.

Brentford have lost just two games in their past 19 league and cup games and have not been beaten at home since a 3-1 defeat to Yeovil Town in August that left some fans questioning Rosler’s wisdom.

That is no mean feat when you consider the stature of clubs currently in the division.

Former Championship and Premier League clubs Preston North End, Sheffield United, Coventry City, Doncaster Rovers and Portsmouth have all been stung or otherwise by the Bees this term.

And let us not forget the quality of this league is much better than 20 years ago.

The Christmas period is going to be key, but Bees fans can look ahead to 2013 with optimism.
