The Surrey Comet and Elmbridge Guardian take a month-by-month look back at some of the sports stories that mattered to the borough in 2012.

June: Walton Athletics Club’s Lisa O’Brien, 18, took Surrey Schools Championship triple jump gold with a leap of 10.87m, to go one better than the silver medal she won at the county event a month earlier.

July: Weybridge bowler Henry Turner celebrates taking six wickets to help his side to their first Surrey Championship Premier League win of the summer. They went on to beat the drop.

August: Molesey Boat Club members at Barge Walk showed the strain before cheering on Andrew Triggs Hodge and clubmate Tom James to London 2012 men’s coxless fours gold medal glory on Super Saturday.

September: Former Quins centre Ollie Smith starts life as Esher’s new head coach with a 39-22 National Division One opening day defeat at Fylde. 

October: Surbiton Ladies end a run of four straight wins at the start of their first season in the Women's Hockey League Premier Division, with a 1-1 draw to Bowdon Hightown.

November: Ryman Premier League Met Police reached the FA Cup first round proper, but narrowly lost 2-1 to League One Crawley Town at Imber Court. 

December: Sprinter Sacre won the £120,000 Sportingbet Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown Park beating rival Sanctuaire into third place.
