Brentford 0 AFC Bournemouth 0

It was honours even between two of League One's form teams as Brentford played out a 0-0 draw with AFC Bournemouth at Griffin Park on New Year's Day.

During a keenly contested affair both sides created a number of chances but failed to find the back of the net.

Adam Forshaw had the Bees' first chance when he shot wide early on.

Jake Bidwell nearly took advantage from a free kick to the right of the box, but fired over the bar.

For the Cherries Marc Pugh cut in from the left and saw Simon Moore save his low shot.

Marcello Trotta did well to create space inside the six yard box and turn before his shot was saved by former England keeper David James.

Forshaw came closest for Brentford during the first half when he shot inches wide of the left hand post from 25 yards, while Trotta headed over a near post header from a Harry Forrester cross.

Early in the second half Moore made a good save when he smothered the ball after Brett Pitman broke into the box and nearly set up Wes Fogden.

Pitman again proved a threat when his corner was headed towards goal by Harry Arter and scrambled off the line by the Bees' defence.

Forshaw again threatened when he sent a rasping shot from the left over the bar.

Bournemouth created an excellent chance when Lewis Grabban broke down the left and his cross was met by Fogden, who set up Josh McQuoid, who shot wide.

The visitors enjoyed the better chances in the closing stages as Matt Tubbs first shot wide, while Charlie Daniels sent a 25 yard free kick high over the bar.

The game ended in a draw, despite late Brentford claims for a penalty after Clayton Donaldson was bundled over onside the box.
