Director of rugby Conor O'Shea reckons scrum half Danny Care's sparkling form is down to the Yorkshireman's new maturity.

The 26-year-old, who celebrated his birthday last week, scored his eighth try in his past 10 appearances for the club in Sunday's 31-26 win over London Welsh.

Care was named in England head coach Stuart Lancaster's elite player squad on Wednesday for the forthcoming Six Nations -  a far cry from where he was 12 months ago.

The former Leeds Carnegie man was booted out of the international set-up last year over a series of alcohol fuelled episodes.

Since then he has helped Quins lift the Premiership title in May, earned a recall to the England squad - featuring in a famous autumn international triumph over world champions New Zealand - and inspired his club to the summitt of the top flight and the brink of the Heineken Cup quarter finals.

And O'Shea doubts he is finished yet.

"England have an embarrassment of riches at scrum half at the moment when you think there is Ben Youngs, Joe Simpson, Karl Dickson and his brother Lee all playing well too," he said.

"Danny is just playing some incredible rugby at the moment, which is great for us. He had a difficult start to 2012, but he is more mature now and we are reaping the benefits.

"There are a lot of individual accolades out there for Danny to go for over the next six months - like selection on the Lions tour - but all that only comes if he continues to perform."

Captain Chris Robshaw, Joe Marler and Mike Brown join Care in the senior squad, while Joe Gray, George Robson, George Lowe, Jordan Turner-Hall and Ugo Monye will be with the Saxons - with no place for an international return for in-form Nick Easter.

And Lancaster admitted there were spots in his squad's summer tour to Argentina up for grabs.

"This is a very important year for England, with the Six Nations and the Saxons games to look forward to, so there are some great opportunities for the players to demonstrate their club form at international level," he said.

"The summer tour to Argentina will also be a great chance for those players pushing for a place - especially with some of our senior squad hopefully going with the Lions - and chances will undoubtedly arise as we hope to play two midweek games as well as the two Tests."
