Fit-again London Welsh back row Ed Williamson is hoping fortune smiles on him for a change this month.

A knee injury picked up in the 32-31 win over I Cavalieri Prato in October sidelined the former Newcastle Falcon for 10 weeks, barely two months in to his return to rugby after premature retirement.

Williamson quit the game in February 2001 with a hand injury, but Exiles head coach Lyn Jones talked him into a comeback and he is now ready to take his second chance in the Amlin and LV= Cup competitions.

“It’s frustrating. When I came here Lyn even said in the press that I’d been unlucky with injuries, so to get another injury was just a freak thing, which is a familiar story for me,” he said.

“But those 10 weeks have gone quite quickly, These four games have come at the right time for me to get some game time. Hopefully I can start knocking on the door of the Premiership side.”
