Kingstonian striker Paul Vines is hoping Carshalton Athletic continue their Ryman Premier Division revival, but not at the expense of his new club.

Vines signed for Ks at the weekend after agreeing a switch to Kingsmeadow from Cray Wanderers, who he had joined in the wake of stringent cutbacks at the Robins earlier in the season.

Carshalton, who host Ks on Saturday, have been in freefall since Vines left the club, but back-to-back wins over Enfield Town and Cray  have Athletic, managed by former Kingstonian midfielder Tommy Williams, dreaming of safety.

But the 29-year-old former Tooting & Mitcham United frontman, who has 10 goals to his name this term, is out to end that run with Ks.

“What happened at Carshalton was unfortunate and them slipping to the bottom of the table was to be expected after the exodus of players there,” he said.

“It will be nice to see some familiar faces. There is a good bunch of people there who work very hard behind the scenes.

“I still look out for their results.  They have had a good run recently.

"I hope they get out of trouble, but hopefully not at the expense of us this week.”

Vines, who had a spell with Ks in 2011, moved to Cray to team up with older brother centre back Joe, who is in the twilight of his career.

The junior partner was part of the Ks team that narrowly missed out on the play-offs in 2011, thanks to a 3-3 final day draw at Margate – and he is out to put that right.

“Alan Dowson approached me in the summer, but I went to Cray to play with my brother Joe. It didn’t quite work out and luckily Alan gave me another call,” he added.

“Joe is the sort of defender I would not want to play against, so I hope he joins a club we have already played twice.

“With myself, Andre McCollin and Wade Small, there is competition for places, but we are three different types of strikers which means Alan can mix things up.

“I think we have the fire power to get in the play-offs.”
