Kingstonian midfielder Lewis Taylor is out to win Ryman Premier League promotion in memory of his mum.

Kathy Taylor, 54, died of a sudden heart attack last month and was buried last Thursday two days before Kingstonian’s 9-3 win over Cray Wanderers at Kingsmeadow on Saturday.

Taylor, who started the season at Carshalton Athletic before switching to Ks before Christmas, dedicated his hat-trick to her memory and has targeted promotion too.

“Everyone who knows me knows she was one of my biggest fans,” he said.

“It has been a difficult couple of weeks because her death was totally out of the blue. She hadn’t even been ill.

“I have carried on playing because it is what she would have wanted.

“I told myself and the boys in the dressing room before the game that she would be looking down on me on Saturday and she was definitely shining on me.

“Alan showed up at the funeral which was totally unexpected.  I can’t say enough about him he has been brilliant and is up there as one
of the top managers I’ve worked with.

“Hopefully I can keep performing for him and the team and we can get promoted. My mum would want me to do that for her.”

Taylor, 26, has won Ryman Premier League promotion with AFC Wimbledon and believes Dowson has assembled a squad that can match that achievement.

“If you look through the squad there is quality everywhere,” he added.

“Rob Tolfrey is one of the best goalkeepers in the league, our defence is solid and Saturday showed we have got goals coming from all over the pitch.

“I’ve never known a result like that since my days in Sunday football – we had a few of them.

“Every game is tricky one in this league but we have the right mentality and we can only take every game as it comes.”

Taylor, a regular at Kingsmeadow during his spell with the Dons, joined the Robins having had two seasons at Tonbridge Angels, but left the cash-strapped crisis club.

And he insisted the support of Ks fans made returning to familiar territory in November was an easy decision to make.

“I’ve been at quite a few clubs but the support you get from the fans here is the best,” he added.
