Streatham-Croydon fall foul of the Law

Streatham-Croydon lost 26-12 at Law Society on Saturday.

Streatham had beaten the same opposition well at Frant Road earlier in the season but it was in the first minute that Law Society made sure their visitors knew that this was going to be a very different game, as they broke from a scrimmage to go over the line.

Streatham equalised with a try from Conor McNama, back in the first team after some time away with the Army. Regular hooker Ben Alsop suffered a broken hand and awaits to see the results of a visit to a specialist to see if he requires a pin inserted in his hand.

A defensive mistake then let in Law Society for another try for a 12-5 half-time lead, but the Streatham-Croydon performance suggested optimism for the second-half as they made several breaks and played with excellent fluidity without breaking free of a determined home defence.

Instead, Law Society scored another two well-worked tries in the second half that gave them what was in the end a deserved victory.

Streatham captain Garvin Toussaint scored a try to reduce the arrears on 57 mins to 19-12 but the Society’s try in the final minute put paid to hopes of a bonus point.

Streatham now need to make sure their final two matches of the season are played with the same commitment as the rest of the season in order to secure a top four finish, starting this Saturday with a trip to a resurgent Bec Old Boys, KO 2.30pm.
