Mitcham’s undefeated light-middleweight contender Tony Chaplin has promised to deliver a career-best performance when he returns to action on March 16 in the Queensbury Boxing League.

After an 18-month absence through injury, the 27-year-old faces London’s Arthif Daniel at Epsom Downs Racecourse and will defend his southern area title.

He said: “Come the fight, you are going to see the best Tony Chaplin that has ever set foot in the league.

“There’s no way he’s going to want to go as far as I’m prepared to go to get the win so I’m ready to get in there now and do the business.”

He added: “It has been frustrating with the injuries and not being able to be as active as I would like, but my main focus now is on boxing and I’ve stooped all the other sports I have been involved with so hopefully I can build up the momentum and really start to push forward.

“I’ve seen footage of Daniel and I know he’s coming into the contest with the height and reach advantages over me, but my coaching team down at GoFit Go Box in Tadworth have been working on a specific strategy for me to work around it."

With Chaplin keen to move down to the league’s welterweight division if he can successfully navigate his way past Daniel, he has already set his sights on a mouth-watering summer showdown with the winner of the English title showdown between Anthony Hill and Patrick Fielder which takes place on the same Epsom bill.
