Brentford manager Uwe Rosler believes the heartbreaking end to Brentford's season will only make them stronger for another promotion push next season.

The Bees agonisingly lost the League One play-off final 2-1 to Yeovil Town at Wembley yesterday to miss out on a place in next season's Championship.

It came three weeks after Marcello Trotta hit the bar with a last-minute penalty against Doncaster Rovers in the final game of the season, which would have given the Bees automatic promotion if it had gone in.

To have come so close twice and miss out twice is an experience that could wreck some careers but Rosler expects it to be used as motivation when the new campaign kicks off in August.

"I am very proud to be the manager of that team and this will only make us stronger. What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger," he said.

"The hardest moment of my career was relegation from the Premiership with Manchester City, but this is the second.

"However, this club has not been at this level for decades and this squad have lifted the club to a higher level.

"To not make that last step is very hard for all of us but we will use this as motivation and we will fight next year for promotion again."

Brentford started slowly and were behind after just six minutes when Paddy Madden shot into the top corner with the outside of his right foot.

The Bees struggled to get going and were 2-0 down before the break when Dan Burn rose higher than three Brentford defenders to head home a corner through a tangle of legs.

Rosler gave his side a rocket at half-time and they switched to 4-4-2 from 4-3-3 and soon had a goal back through Harlee Dean's unmarked header.

They had all the possession and all the chances in the second half, but Clayton Donaldson, Bradley Wright-Phillips and Adam Forshaw were all denied by Glovers keeper Mark Stech.

"It is very tough and we didn’t deserve it, especially if you see the second half," added Rosler.

"We had them on their knees but we couldn’t get the equalising goal.

"First half we were nervous and for some players it was their first time in a stadium like this.

"Yeovil did not have to work hard enough for the first goal, their first shot was a goal. The second goal was unacceptable and a very bad moment for us.

"But second half we bombarded them and we should have got an equaliser."
