Sutton United midfielder Harry Beautyman could not believe the news when he was called up to the England C squad.

Moreover, it would be fair to say the 21-year-old is over the moon that his first international cap could come in the week-long trip to the exotic island of Bermuda.

The 16-man squad flies out to the Caribbean on June 1 to face the Bermuda national side.

England C manager Paul Fairclough is using the fixture to continue his preparations for next season’s International Challenge Trophy, that starts in September.

Beautyman said: “I knew I was in a larger England C squad that had to be cut down to 16, and when I heard I had made the final squad I could not believe it. I was stunned.

“The first thing I did was phone my family, and they could not believe it either.

“And to be going to Bermuda is amazing, it cannot be much better. “I’ve always wanted to go to the Caribbean and here’s my chance.

“I only know a couple of the other lads, who play for Welling United, but that does not bother me.

“The Bermuda FA reckons there will be a big crowd for the game, so I am really looking forward to it and I want to make sure I do well.”

Beautyman’s club future remains in doubt as he is yet to sign a new contract with United as he searches for a step up.

However, he and boss Paul Doswell have come to an agreement.

Beautyman said: “I’ve played more than 100 games for Sutton and I want to play at a higher level and further my career.

“Paul has told me he will not stand in my way if I get a move to a higher level, but if it doesn’t happen, he says I am more than welcome to come back.

“That is great for me because I love this club, they have been absolutely brilliant for me from day one.

“If an offer came in from another Blue Square South side, I would not take it. I’d rather stay at Sutton.

“I spent time at some league clubs earlier this season, including Exeter.

“They weren’t trials as such, but the managers told me I was a good lad and a good player, they just did not have any room in the squad.

“It was disappointing but at least those managers know me and what I am about.

“There are a couple of irons in the fire, but as yet there is nothing concrete.”

Meanwhile, Sutton have announced a second pre-season friendly against a Premier League XI and will take on Chelsea on July 23.

It follows the visit of Arsenal on July 12.
