New Brentford winger Martin Fillo admits the lure of being re-acquainted with boss Uwe Rosler was a big part of his decision to join the club on a season-long loan.

Fillo, 27, joined from Czech side Viktoria Plzen, although he spent most of last year on loan at Mlada Boleslav.

He worked with Rosler for two years from 2008-10 at Norwegian club Viking and hopes the German can help him find his form again.

Speaking after making his first appearance at Griffin Park in a 3-0 win over Millwall in a pre-season friendly, he said: “I knew him (Rosler) from Viking and I had a good year, the first year was really good and I hope I can repeat it. I’m very pleased to be here.

“It was difficult for me at Viktoria because the team is really good and I didn’t spend much time on the pitch, so I’m very hungry to play and just want to give 100% for the team.”

Although Fillo knows he will have to impress to get a regular spot in the Brentford side: “It’s going to be tough because the squad is very strong and it has ambitions,” he said.

Last season, Brentford cruelly missed out on promotion to the Championship after a final day defeat to Doncaster Rovers, and were defeated in the play-off final by Yeovil Town at Wembley.

Undetered, the Bees have set their sights on achieving promotion this season and Fillo admitted the pre-season schedule has been tough: “We’re working really hard, maybe a little more than I expected.

"I’ll try and survive the pre-season and hopefully it won’t be this tough during the season, but we have to be prepared because the league is very hard.”

Brentford beat Millwall 3-0 in their first pre-season fixture after their tour in Germany with second half goals from Sam Saunders, Paul Hayes and Stuart Dallas.

The Bees’ next fixture is on Saturday at home to Celtic in what is expected to be a sell out Griffin Park.
