Surbiton Hockey Club’s new girl Hollie Webb is doing nothing but looking ahead after a dramatic finale to the Women’s TriFinance EuroHockey Championships.
With clubmates Sarah Haycroft, Georgie Twigg and Giselle Ansley, Webb suffered the heartbreak of a penalty shoot-out defeat to Germany on Saturday in Belgium and had to settle for a silver medal.
Twigg endured the highs and lows of sport by scoring England’s opening goal in a 4-4 draw, but then missing in the 2-0 shoot-out defeat.
Despite her disappointment, Webb is confident there is better to come for all the Surbiton girls when they are wearing the three lions.
“That’s just a sign of how determined we are as a squad, and I know that there’s so much more to come looking ahead.
“Yes I am gutted right now, but I know when I look back on this tournament in a few weeks time, it will sink in how important it’s been.
“We’re just going to get better and better.”
Surbiton have a double-header of friendlies this weekend at Sugden Road with Canterbury (4pm, Saturday) and Buckingham (11.30am, Sunday) the visitors.

The Surbiton men endured a mixed weekend with the stick.
After a 2-1 pre-season friendly defeat to Cannock – Scott Evans scoring the only goal, Surbiton then put seven past Fareham.
Alan Forsyth claimed a hat-trick, while Evans, Adam Jolly, Jonathan Gall and Rob Moore completed the rout.
The build up to the new season continues when Surbiton go to Reading Saturday (5.30pm).
