Paul Doswell takes a confident Sutton United to Whitehawk on Saturday to start their FA Cup campaign.
After last year’s disappointing exit at home to Bromley, the boss is keen to reach the first round proper for more reasons than one, and having beaten Havant & Waterlooville 5-0 on the south coast in the Skrill South last weekend, and already beaten the Hawks this season, the omens are good.
Doswell said: “The FA Cup is not about glamour, it is about the financial gain.
“Don’t get me wrong, we love the cup. It gets the heart racing when you’re on the touchline. There is not the pressure of three points, but there is the pressure of feeling responsible for the club.
“We need to get to the first round proper and hope we get a League side at home, that’s what everyone wants.
“It would be our cup final, and the income is much needed – that’s why you feel responsible.”
Doswell is without Simon Downer, Marvin Williams and James Folkes, although Jamie Taylor and Damian Scannell should be fit.
