Bond is not left straggling in Oxford as she prepares for Germany
Stragglers Running Club’s Claire Bond hopes her good form can help her to a personal best at the Frankfurt marathon.
The 45-year-old clocked one hour, 22 minutes, 32 seconds to win the Oxford half-marathon on Sunday in her final race before the big one in Germany on October 27.
Bond, who has not raced for the last few years having taken a break from athletics to have children, set her marathon best of 2:54:00 in London in 2006.
She missed this year’s London Marathon with a virus having clocked 1:21:49 as she finished second at the Paddock Wood Half Marathon in the build up – placing her third in the UK rankings list for women over 45.
And she will be hoping lightning does not strike twice for her bid for personal glory.
“Frankfurt is one of Europe’s quickest marathons and attracts a strong field,” she said.
“I’m hoping I’ll be in good company and let my current form do the work.
“If all goes to plan, a PB will come of it. At the not so tender age of 45, I’ll be ecstatic with that.”
