The destination of the Surrey men's cross-country league title hangs in the balance after Herne Hill Harriers cut Kent AC's lead by 54 points last weekend at Putney Vale.

Should the Harriers do the same in the final meeting at Richmond Park on February 8, then the title will be theirs.

All 10 of Harriers scoring runners came inside the top 37 places, guaranteeing top spot on the day, and giving themselves a real shout at the title next month.

Kent would finish the day second overall, with Wimbledon Windmilers in third.

Jo Morwood led the club home over the 8.9km course clocking 30 minutes 30 seconds to finish sixth, ahead of Alan Barnes (10th, 30:48) and Chris Busaileh (11th, 30:54).

Mike Cummings (18th, 31:07), Kojo Kyereme (22nd, 31:24), Alan Wray (23rd, 31:25), Ben Paviour (24th, 31:27), John Kettle (29th, 31:44), Simon Coombes (30th, 31:51) and Tim Elsey (36th, 32:10) completed the scoring.

The U13s team lead the standings going into next  month's final meeting after having four names in the top five runners last weekend.

Turkay Korkmaz led the way clocking 15:12, with Oscar Millard (second, 15:16), Mohammed Ali (fourth, 16:26) and Freddie Hodgson (fifth, 16:56) completing the scoring.

There was victory on the day for the U17s, but they remain second before the final meeting.

Paul Burgess (fourth, 14:09), Billy Black (fifth, 14:13) and Merhawi Yemane (sixth, 14:19) proved the benefits of pack running, while Abel Tadesse in ninth (14:44) completed the winning times.
