Walton Casuals boss Mark Hams has swooped to give his side’s flagging Ryman Division One South fortunes a new life, writes Stuart Amos.
The Waterside Drive chief signed Gillingham’s 18-year-old goalkeeper Luke Nalder, a former Rydens Enterprise School student, to his squad on Wednesday on a work experience basis.
French centre back Djbril Fofana, 19, has also come in from Farnborough to strengthen a defence that has leaked 33 goals in the club’s past 13 league games.
Andrew Mensah has switched to Walton & Hersham, two weeks and two appearances since joining the Stags.
Hams knows the changes will need to take effect pretty quickly if they are to launch a seemingly unlikely play-off push that has faded dramatically since a strong start to the campaign.
The Stags crashed 3-2 at home to Horsham on Saturday, having battled back from 2-0 down through goals from Simon Huckle and Jamal Jimoh.
It leaves Walton ninth in the table and nine points adrift of fifth-placed Folkstone Invicta prior to Tuesday’s midweek fixtures.
They host Herne Bay tomorrow.
