Sutton & Cheam Swimming Club had an evening to remember at last week’s Borough Primary School Championships winning a massive 54 medals – including 11 grade one golds.

The club’s contingent of 36 swimmers also won 11 of the 14 borough titles on offer.

Joseph Bartley led the grade one way with a hat-trick of gold medals, while Hannah Rees, Andrej Drzaic and Nubia Adjei each picked up two top gongs. Greg Gilbride and Jack Wild won one each.

Gilbride also won two grade one silver medals, and Wild, Izzabella Morris, Gabrielle Jiminez and George Croome claimed their own piece of silverware.

Wild was particularly unlucky, missing out on the gold in the boys Year 6 freestyle by 1/100 of a second, and finishing second in the Year 4/5/6 butterfly in the same time as the winner.

There were grade one bronze medals for Rees, Wild, Freya Bayliss, Toby Beer, Joseph Bartley and Morris.

Cheam took a clean sweep of gold, silver and bronze in two events but went even better taking the top four places in the boys' Year 6 freestyle, the top five places in the boys' Year 6 backstroke, the top six places in the boys' Year 6 breaststroke and the boys' Year 4/5/6 butterfly.

The Championships was also run as a graded event and graded medals went to Joseph Suggitt (three), Thomas Emery (three), Alice Cammock (two), George Croome (two), Jack Conroy (two), Marli Carter (two), Martha Peremyslov (two), Olivia Humphries (two), Amy Scerri, Andrej Drzaic, Chloe Doyle, Emma Van Domselaar, Frances Spicer, Gabrielle Jiminez, Greg Gilbride, Jack Wild, Kacey Millen, Keely Scanlon, Nicole Lee, Nubia Adjei, Spencer Creamore.
