Striker Jason Henry is convinced the future bodes well for Carshalton Athletic despite relegation from the Ryman Premier.

Henry was on the scoresheet as the Robins ended the season a high, beating Hampton & Richmond 2-0 on Saturday at Colston Avenue.

And the ex-Cray man believes the club’s youngsters have enough about them to give next season a real go.

He said: “It’s not easy to consistently do well in this league with a young squad but when we've clicked, like against Hampton, everyone can see the potential.

“They would have learned a lot from this experience and, although it is disappointing at the time, we'll come back stronger for it.”

Sean O’Toole put Carshalton in the lead on 23 minutes and Henry doubled it five minutes later with a close range finish.

Although the Robins’ lead was never in doubt they, and Henry in particular, could have inflicted a much heavier defeat on their opponents.

“Their goalkeeper did well, I personally could have had three or four goals but for him,” he added.

“I was pleased with my overall contribution however and we signed off on a high, which we wanted for the management and fans.”

Henry’s goal made him the club’s second highest goalscorer of the season and he says he is open to staying with Carshalton as they prepare for life in the Ryman South.

“I’ll be waiting for a call from [boss] Stuart Massey over the next couple of weeks to discuss things, but I would be happy to stay,” he said.

“It’s been a pleasure playing here and I’d like to remain a part of what the club is trying to build with its exciting young talent.”
