Harry Aikines-Aryeetey brushed off his disappointment of failing to qualify for the individual 100m Commonwealth Games final by claiming silver in men’s sprint relay.

The 25-year-old Sutton & District AC star, with James Ellington, Richard Kilty and Danny Talbot, finished behind a Jamaica squad anchored by Usain Bolt.

Jamaica recorded a new Games record of 37.58 seconds, with England (38.02secs) and Trinidad & Tobago (38.10secs) in their wake.

Aikines-Aryeetey said: “It’s always nice to compete against the highest level and the Americans were the only ones missing. “Moving forward as a unit, our sprints have definitely improved and Adam [Gemili] medalled individually, which we’re all really proud of.

“Now we know we can get the baton round, we trust each other, and we’ve put a lot of hard work in. Moments like this are what we train for.”
