New AFC Wimbledon hitman Matt Tubbs has arrived at the Cherry Red Records stadium hungry for goals, and is convinced he can end Dons’ scoring woes this year.

Goals proved difficult to come by at times last season, with no one in the Dons’ squad getting into double figures in the league.

But Tubbs hopes to change all that with a proven track record of scoring wherever he goes, and he is confident of striking up a partnership with fellow summer recruit Adebayo Akinfenwa.

“Bayo is the sort of player that is a dream for me to play with,” he said. “He’ll hold the ball up and flick it on.

“My sort of game is exactly the opposite of what he does so we should complement each other. As long as I can read his flicks and work with him well, hopefully it will be a good partnership.

“I’d like to think we can both stick in a few goals this year. We’ve got a lot of league games between us and a handful of goals, so there’s no reason it should not work.

“We’ve seen glimpses of it in training and in a few preseason games as well, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed that it will click.”

Despite harbouring most of Dons’ goalscoring hopes alongside Akinfenwa, Tubbs is not feeling the pressure yet and is gunning for Dons promotion.

He said: “I’m a confident lad and I’m confident in my ability to score goals as I have done wherever I’ve been.

“The team here create chances for fun, and if I’m not getting on the end of them and scoring I’ll have to take a look at myself.

“I’ve been lucky to have been involved in promotions throughout my career and there’s no better feeling, so I’m looking to add another one to my list.”
