Former British tennis number one Tim Henman has proclaimed the Sutton Tennis & Squash Club’s latest tournament as the lifeblood of future talent.

The four-times Wimbledon semi-finalist was supporting the club’s £12,300 Aegon LTA British Tour tier one tournament, by running a junior clinic with youngsters from the club, Royal Marsden and Cheam Sports.

He said: “British tennis is making great strides, and tournaments like this at Sutton are vital to nurture the lifeblood of future talent.”

Club president Stuart Duthie said: “The club has a great heritage and a strong following among the next generation of young tennis players.

“This year was the biggest yet. We had more than 300 entries across all categories.”

The tournament’s finals day was held on Saturday with British women’s number five Tara Moore and James Marsalek dominating.

Moore won the women’s singles title over Francesca Stephenson (6-1 6-1), as well as the mixed doubles with Marsalek and the ladies doubles with Jessica Simpson.

Marsalek won the men’s singles title, beating Joshua Sapwell 6-2 6-2, as well as the men’s doubles with Marcus Willis.
