Rising boxing star Ben Vickers could be on the cusp of national recognition if the talented Wandsworth star can overcome his biggest test yet this weekend.

The 23-year-old will step through the ropes at the Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey to challenge fellow Londoner Mitch Duffus for the Queensbury Boxing League national cruiserweight title.

Vickers announced his arrival in the televised boxing series last year when he dethroned long-standing regional champion Steve Orford in a stunning upset victory.

He further enhanced his growing reputation in July when he knocked out former amateur star Tom Woledge in a career best performance at London’s Alexandra Palace.

But the Wandsworth stylist will need to call on all his experience on Saturday if he is to overcome fellow undefeated challenger Duffus.

Queensbury promotions director Alan Foley said: “There is no question Ben Vickers is the real deal and this could be a career changing fight for him if he can emerge with the victory.

“Ben has looked impressive in every fight in the competition, but Mitch Duffus will be undoubtedly his toughest test.

“But if Ben can get past him then he can go on to be one of the country’s biggest stars.”

To watch Vickers in action in his last fight tune in to British Eurosport 2 channel 411 this tonight at 9pm.
