New Addington boxing star Gareth Gardner will face the biggest challenge of his Queensbury Boxing League career in two weeks’ time, when he defends his British title.

Despite this, the 33-year-old is convinced he will still be wearing his middleweight belt while eating his Christmas dinner.

Standing between Gardner and his Christmas attire is the undefeated Kieran Leinster from Twickenham, and the pair will do battle on November 22.

Gardner said: “Leinster is a fit, strong lad who has shown he’s got a decent dig on him.

“Putting all that aside I’m 100 per cent confident its going to be another Gardner victory, and an incredible fight to end the year.

“I sparred with Kieran earlier this year to help him out, but we didn’t get too friendly, so I’m totally focussed on what I need to do in this fight.

“As long as I keep a clear head and stick to the task, I’ll be wearing the belt over Christmas.”

Gardner was last in action in September, when he brutally despatched former England international amateur Tommy Marcon in the second round of their British title fight to reclaim the title he relinquished last year.

He added: “I know what I’ve got to do and experience wise I started boxing before Leinster was even born, so I’ve got to use that to my advantage and make him pay for all the mistakes that I know he makes in his fights.”

Gardner’s British title defence will headline the night of championship action at the Millennium Effingham Park Hotel, and for more information go to queensburyboxing.co.uk
