Hampton School director of rowing Colin Greenaway has claimed the future of British rowing is safe after a successful Hampton School Small Boats Head last week, writes Stuart Amos.
More than 580 school crews from across the country competed in the singles, pairs, doubles and quad disciplines.
And Greenaway, who praised volunteers for making sure the event ran smoothly in challenging conditions, was impressed with what he saw.
“The boys and girls who raced were a credit to their parents, clubs and schools,” he said.
“They are fierce competitors, but show a great respect for their fellow athletes and the race officials.
“With young athletes like these coming up through the ranks I am sure British Rowing has a lot to look forward to for many years to come.”
Hampton’s junior pair, Tom Long and Lewis Owns were the big local winners, while Canford School’s junior doubles crew set the fastest time of the day.
