Carshalton Athletic made it three unbeaten following a draw at Worthing last Saturday, but defender Adriano Moraes is still not happy.

The Robins led 2-1 on the south coast with four minutes to go but a debatable second penalty, awarded after Carshalton goalkeeper Jack Eden was adjudged to have fouled an opponent while contesting a high ball, was converted by the hosts for a share of the spoils.

The score draw meant, due to other results, Carshalton slipped one place to 16th in the Ryman Division One South.

Moraes said: “It was a depressing end to the afternoon because we felt it was a rather soft penalty. We don’t see this as one point gained, rather it is two points lost.

“We’ve been pegged back twice by late goals twice now [Carshalton conceded an 86th minute equaliser to Guernsey last week] and it’s frustrating because our performances have deserved victory each time.”

Carshalton did manage to overturn a 1-0 deficit and losing striker Austin Gacheru through injury, thanks to second-half goals from Tommy Bradford and a first of the season for Bobby Price.

“It’s great to see them on the scoresheet, especially after they impressed last season,” Moraes added.

“Tommy’s struggled for goals but he works so hard for the team, while Bobby is almost back to his old self following injury. Hopefully we’ll see more coming from those two moving forwards.”

Next up for Carshalton is a visit from Walton & Hersham on Saturday and Moraes believes that, late goals aside, the club is improving.

“We are going into every game full of confidence at the moment. If we can just keep focused then there is no reason why we can’t keep adding to our points tally.”
