It has been a week to remember for Trinity School’s rugby fraternity thanks to a double dose of good news.

Last week, the Croydon school was chosen as the base for the French national side when Les Bleus prepare for the World Cup in September.

The French Rugby Federation made its first visit to the school alongside national head coach Philippe Saint-Andre.

He said: “The countdown really is on and we are looking forward to staying at Trinity School and experiencing the world cup not only in the match venues, but in and around the area.”

Saint-Andre took time out to meet the school’s first XV.

The school’s director of rugby Aaron Liffchak said: “It was great to get input from someone who is so experienced and knowledgeable about the Game, the boys absorbed everything he had to say.”

Meanwhile, on the pitch the school is celebrating reaching the final of the School Sports magazine U13 National Cup.

After a 24-5 win over Richard Lander School in Truro, Trinity will face Warwick School in the final on March 18.

The tries were scored by Marco Fung, Femi Olajiga and Josh Palmer (two), while Archie Warren slotted over two conversions.

Liffchak said: “This is a fantastic achievement. It shows how hard work and determination can pay off.”

Almost 150 schools entered the competition, and Trinity have to overcome St James the Great, Whitgift, Dulwich, John Fisher and Shrewsbury House schools before their semi-final against Richard Lander.

There was less good news last week when the school’s U18 side were knocked out of the NatWest Cup, losing 21-16 to Dulwich College.
