The Surrey Comet’s very own working-class hero Sutton boxer Lenny Daws steps up to the plate to talk through his first love and an unexpected appreciation for former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, writes Tim Ashton.

First car: Metro, as soon as I passed my test at 17. I did it up, I blacked the windows out, alloys, big exhaust out the back, halogen lamps – had the music blaring out. I loved that little car.

First pet: We’ve always had dogs, I had a lurcher called Becky.

First hero: That’s a tough one. Probably Daley Thompson, he comes to mind, and Nigel Benn.

First holiday: We always went down to a caravan site near Chichester every other weekend and school holidays. Southern Leisure near Church Farm.

First trophy: Ten-pin bowling. I must have been about eight or nine, at Tolworth, I beat everyone that day and they handed me a little trophy, I was over the moon.

First pin-up: It was probably someone like Mike Tyson – I had a couple of his posters in my room to motivate me. I never had girls on the wall.

First date: With my now wife Debbie. I was about 16 and we’ve been together ever since – we went for a drink, been together 19 years.
