Carshalton Athletic assistant manager Theo Scott believes the stark contrast between the club's home and away form is such a mystery that even a world famous detective would struggle to solve it.

The Robins management team held a dressing room inquest after last night's 4-1 defeat at Corinthian Casuals stretched a miserable record of no wins on the road to six months.

Casuals leapfrogged Carshalton in Ryman Division One South standings, while the Robins slipped to 15th ahead of a weekend visit to play-off contenders Whyteleafe (kick-off 3pm).

Scott said: "Even Hercule Poirot wouldn't know how to start solving this mystery.

"We did some soul-searching after the game but all I can reveal is that we are together as a squad and that we're all committed to finding a way to change our fortunes on the road.

"We were disappointed we didn't match our opponent's desire to win but they defended well even when we got going after the break, so it seems we need to install a similar attribute into our style of play."

The only highlight for the travelling Robins fans came on 32 minutes as a goalkeeping error saw Bobby Price tee up Austin Gacheru for his seventh goal since joining last November.

"That was our first shot of the game however which, again, isn't a positive statistic," added Scott.

"We tried to be flexible - we changed our shape and introduced fresh legs in the second-half - but if it seems goals are going to be at a premium then we must adopt a stronger defensive mentality to ensure we don't end up losing."

Carshalton have the chance to rectify their away form with the upcoming trip to Whyteleafe this Saturday and Scott believes his players should be going into matches free from any worries.

"There is no real pressure on us in terms of our league position and so the boys should be playing without any fear, but our belief in them is unshakeable," he added.

"We know we have a group of talented players and we'll work together to become harder to beat on the road, so we'll dust ourselves off and work hard on preparing for Saturday."
