Sutton reclaimed the female judo title at the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games on Saturday, leaving team manager Andy Ede a proud man.

Sutton, who last won the title in 2013, were bolstered by gold medals for Evelyn Jones, Roxanne Proctor, Emily Matthews, Leanne Henlon and Emma Jeffries as they saw off the challenge of defending champions Greenwich at the Crystal Palace Sports Centre.

Ede said: “It’s fantastic. The girls worked really hard, they’ve done us proud, they’ve done themselves proud.

"They trained hard, a lot of the girls train three times a week and they do competitions in the build up to this as well."

He added: “This is a fantastic event for them. It’s one of the best every year. They always look forward to it.

"We get lots of little ones to come in and because it’s a team event they get inspired by the older girls so it really helps.”
