Dan Housego knows all about the importance of momentum in cricket, and now it is bearing fruit on a personal and team basis.

The Twickenham batsman has recorded back-to-back half-centuries to coincide with the side’s climb to third in Division One of the Middlesex County Cricket League.

And if they beat second-placed Ealing this weekend at the Green to make it three wins on the spin, following last weekend’s two-wicket victory at Southgate, Twickenham will leapfrog the visitors.

Housego said: “This weekend’s game is massive, if we can get that third win the momentum will really be with us.

“We won’t have Shawn Hicks, who played so well against Southgate, but Carlos Nunes will be back so we should be at full strength.”

Following a knock of 72 two weekends ago, Housego hit a season’s best 87 on Saturday as Twickenham chased down 235 at Southgate to win.

He said: “My personal form is all down to momentum. I know from experience that you go through quiet spells and you have to accept that will happen.

“As long as you maintain your work ethic, put in the practice and back yourself in the middle then you will always come back strongly.”

Meanwhile, Richmond consolidated their position on top of Division One with a 94-run win at Indian Gymkhana on Saturday.

Andrew Lowe, left, who has piled up 456 league runs this term, hit an unbeaten 103, supported by Arthur Sewell (63), as Richmond set their hosts 248 to win – but the target was never threatened as Gymkhana were skittled for 153.

Teddington’s flirtation with the Division One dropzone shows no sign of relenting following a losing draw at home to North Middlesex.

After being set 240 to win, only Charles Hopkins (51*) at number eight offered any resistance as Teddington struggled to 187-8 – leaving them six points above the bottom two.

Richmond host Teddington tomorrow.
