Harry Aikines-Aryeetey had his own super Saturday at Loughborough European Athletics Permit meeting.

The 26-year-old Sutton & District sprint star won all two of his men’s 100m races on a sun-drenched Paula Radcliffe athletic stadium at Loughborough University with times that included a season’s best 10.16 seconds, which was bang on the ‘A’ qualifying standard for the World Championships, and 10.19secs.

“I’m really pleased,” said Aikines-Aryeetey, who just recently returned to action after a lengthy injury spell.

“From where I’ve come from this season, every race has been a blessing and it’s nice to run a season’s best.

“Running on my home track today, as much as I don’t like competing where I train as sometimes you feel a bit numb, it’s a great meet and the crowd who turn up are pure athletics lovers so you’ve got to appreciate that.

“It’s a nice meet with international athletes here, and whilst I didn’t run as fast as I’d have liked in the second one, I won, so it’s a big bonus.

“Each time I race I’m getting better as you can see just then. It may not be a 10.0 or a 9.9 but I can see things are coming - I’m happy.”

Aikines-Aryeetey will be back in action at London Anniversary Games IAAF Diamond League meeting this Friday night at the London Olympic stadium.
