Former AFC Wimbledon academy star Jim Fenlon is on the verge of joining Ryman Premier Division outfit Leatherhead in a bid to resurrect his career.

The 21-year-old defender left the Dons in the summer of 2014 and endured a brief stint at Ross County in the Scottish Premiership before an unhappy spell at Hayes & Yeading United.

However, despite rumours linking Fenlon with former Dons boss Terry Brown at Margate, it was Tanners boss Richard Brady who answered the SOS call.

Brady said: “What Jim needs is games. He’s lost his way a bit, it did not work out at the Dons or Hayes & Yeading and he seems happy enough to come here.

Leatherhead boss has no need to settle down

“He is not as fit as he should be, and he knows that, but if he gets 20 games under his belt, chances are a club higher up will comein for him – and we would not stand in his way.

“He just needs to decide if he’s happy with that.”

Fenlon is set to decide whether he will sign or not today (Thursday).

“He’s a local lad and has lots of friends in the area, and at the academy here, so it is all pretty positive,” Brady added.
