Carshalton Athletic snatched a draw from the jaws of victory for a second consecutive home game last Saturday.

Despite taking a fifth minute lead through Tommy Bradford's converted penalty, missed chances and a poor second-half display meant a rallying South Park scored a dramatic equaliser in added-time.

The 1-1 draw leaves Carshalton just a point outside the top five of the Ryman Division One South table but, as rivals have games in hand, manager Matt Howard fears the play-offs are becoming more of a distance prospect.

"Our performance against South Park was poor and, had they had an extra 10 minutes, they probably would've run out winners," Howard said.

"And, much like our result against Corinthian Casuals two weeks ago [Carshalton were winning 1-0 before Casuals scored late with their only attempt on target], this point doesn't help us pull away from those close behind us.

"I believe we now really have a fight on our hands in terms of reaching the play-offs."

Carshalton's current inability to see home games out from winning positions is also causing Howard a concern.

"We need to grab games by the scruff of the neck otherwise our season will peter out," he added.

"People will perhaps point to the fact Dan Summers and Billy Marshall have both been out for more than a month as a factor, but that's no excuses for others for not giving their all every game.

"Our game management was poor on Saturday and some individuals need to raise their performances. These problems have been recognised and we will work to fix them."

Carshalton go into their game at Ramsgate this weekend unbeaten in four matches, but Howard rues the fact only one of those results was a victory.

"I said last week that my target was 12 more wins before the end of the season, but that is looking like a big ask now," he added.

"But my aspirations for this season were always high and we'll continue to strive for the play-offs until it's mathematically impossible, so we'll dust ourselves off from Saturday's result and get ourselves ready for the trip to Ramsgate."

Carshalton Athletic visit Ramsgate on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.

Meanwhile, Saturday's goalscorer Bradford has agreed an extension to his current deal which will see him at Colston Avenue until 2017.

Midfielder Mickel Miller, who has grabbed four goals to date this season, has also signed a similar agreement.

And defender Paris Hamilton-Downes has signed on until the end of this current campaign, with the potential to extend that deal next season.
